On December 31,2015, a Notice announcing the availability of theAssessment of Fair Housing (AFH)was published in the Federal Register (PDFNotice|HTML Notice).A New Assessment Tool was also released.

ThisAffirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFH) Assessment Toolis for use bylocal governments that receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG),Home Investment Partnerships (HOME),Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG),orHousing Opportunities for Persons withAIDS (HOPWA) formula fundingfrom HUD.

This tool is alsoused for joint and regional collaborations between: (1) local governments and(2) one or more local governments with one or more public housing agencies. HUDhas also provided guidance in the form of theAffirmatively Furthering Fair HousingRule Guidebook.This Guidebook seeks to help program participantsand members of the public understand the AFFH rule, the obligation to completean AFH, and the linkage between an AFH and other required planning processes.

HUD has alsoupdated theAFFH Data and Mapping Tool.

This is an excellent tool toassist with development of Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plans. For thoseof you who may be updating your Limited English Proficiency (LEP) policies, youmay want to check out the Mapping Tool to assist you in assessing your need toprovide policies to ensure meaningful access to people who may have difficultyspeaking or understanding English.
