Updates to VAWA

As many of you know, VAWA was reauthorized in 2022. The Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) has drafted a memorandum summarizing changes enacted as part of The VAWA Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022).

The memo identifies provisions that are effective immediately and those that are yet to be implemented.

The memo also includes a description of VAWA forms that are under revision. We strongly suggest that anyone responsible for VAWA compliance or oversight of VAWA compliance (VAWA Coordinator) review this memorandum.

While not yet required by HUD, we have edited the RBD FASTForms VAWA Policy to add the following new protections:

  • Nonretaliation;
  • Noncoercion;
  • Protection/Right to Report Crimes from Home.

 The RBD FASTForms VAWA Policy is part of the VAWA Package that includes other supporting forms, checklists, interview worksheet and notices to applicants and residents. Click here for a list of forms included in the VAWA Package.

The RBD FASTForms Policy VAWA Template can also be purchased as an Individual Form.

Owner/agents may also be interested in our RBD OnDemand Training – The Violence Against Women Act.  This RBD OnDemand training includes a comprehensive training workbook and answers to Frequently Asked Questions. Those students who pass the Knowledge Challenge will receive a certificate of completion. This class is available for five days from the date of registration so students may start, stop or repeat the class as needed.

HOTMA TRAINING

Yesterday we released our first HOTMA training offering - HOTMA - Multifamily Housing. For those of you who have taken the class, thanks so much for the positive feedback. We know this is the perfect first step to help compliance teams develop HOTMA rollout plans.

We'll be sure to let you know as we add new resources to the HOTMA Resources page. And, coming soon, a whole new addition of HOTMA FASTForms
